número 8: rainbow plates, smile mugs and thrifting as much as possible w/ Lexy
you’re here to see a lovely human’s home and how it all came to be. so, I will happily oblige…
it’s a lovely 62° degrees in the Hudson Valley today. I hope, wherever you are, that it’s equally pleasant! funny how incredibly productive I become when the sun isn’t melting my sensy skin sack exterior. In the span of three hours, I did laundry, picked up my CSA, cleaned the bathroom, and made breakfast. leek gluten-free tart and all! but, you’re not here for my morning routine. you’re here to see a lovely human’s home and how it all came to be. so, I will happily oblige…
there was a moment in time when the extra room in our Brooklyn apartment wasn’t serving its purpose of being an “office”. the idea in my head became less and less appealing as I kept using my room as the aforementioned office because… comfort? laziness? who knows! so we decide to rent the room using the-app-that-shall-not-be-named. cut to… meeting Lexy! they rented our room and as it turns out, we had some magical & fun people in common. namely, our first guest Annie and my fav tattooer, Vicky. life is but a mini cupcake of people in común. we followed each other on instagram and now I’m a fan of Lexy’s incredible sense of style and of course, their home.

describe your space: I was hoping for a space that was colorful, warm, cozy. This is the first renovated apartment I’ve ever lived in, and I was excited to get rid of my ikea furniture and find more vintage.
what's your favorite part? the size and the natural light, we have a front porch and a back porch so we can catch the sun all day, oh and I have 2 closets.
one thing you'd recommend everyone should buy or find secondhand: I try to thrift or trade or buy secondhand as much as possible. The majority of my wardrobe reflects this. Secondhand furniture is generally of better quality for far better prices, and homewares will be more unique! I recently thrifted some rainbow plates and some grid plates both from my local goodwill.
one person you’re obsessed with? My friend Maggie recently opened a vintage shop in Vermont. (hhhaven.co on ig) I’ve really enjoyed watching her process and day-to-day. She’ll share furniture before she gets it restored or reupholstered. She collaborates with her community— record shops, ceramicists, etc and shares her own outfits which always inspire me!
one thing you love to do or want to do soon? I love spending the day in the coastal towns north of the city. Being by the water, exploring the shops and restaurants, skateboarding or biking around, and of course, getting a lot of ice cream.
one place (or thing) to eat: We get ice cream sundae delivery from a place nearby called the Scoop-n-scootery. They just added coffee Oreo to the menu. I usually order a chocolate and coffee Oreo ice cream with their homemade whipped cream, hot fudge, brownies and Oreos… I really love chocolate
one thing on your wishlist: I’m moving in September and I’m finally going to invest in a big ol’ colorful rug.
one piece of advice you'd like to share: My advice (to myself) is to always stop and smell the roses ❤️
thanks for letting us have a peek into your colorful and cozy home Lexy!
